Sandy has been a painful, and painfully close, story. Here are some of the stories I’ve done since October 28, 2012, three of which recently won first place in the news portfolio division of the New Jersey Press Association. Several are reported from Brigantine, N.J., and focused on Cummings Place, a street typical of many communities where regular people of modest means had put together a quirky and content life at the Jersey Shore, only to see it upended by the storm and its frustrating aftermath. The story has only begun to play out.
